What's your favorite [EDIT: alcoholic beverage cocktail]? If it's not obvious from the title, what's in it? If you know a good recipe for it, care to share?
Jade Edouard or Verte Suisse absinthe prepared in the French style, a gimlet with fresh lime juice, a Vesper (aka a "James Bond martini"), or a Sazerac made with cognac instead of rye. Or good Scotch, neat or over ice, but only in the fall. Or a G&T with a slice of lime or lemon, but only in the summer.
Really, anything that's a) complex, b) smooth, c) not too sweet, and d) doesn't contain tequila is probably fine. :-)
Get a bottle of cachaça, which is a Brazilian rotgut distilled from sugar cane juice (as opposed to rum, made from molasses). Put 2 oz. of cachaça in a shaker. Take a lime, quarter it, juice it as much as possible, throw in the remains. Add 1-2 teaspoons of sugar. Shake with ice. Drink. Get seriously buzzed. Probably best to have only two; more than that and you might end up having a rock star moment. :)
I also love foofy girly drinks, like chocolate martinis, B-52s, the Thai martinis at Cuchi Cuchi, and the like.
Champagne cocktails, especially bellinis, especially those made with some fresh fruit puree; bellini = peach; I had a wonderful pear and cardamom based champagne cocktail over the winter. Yes, mojitos. Good margaritas. BUT what do you do when you find yourself at an open bar event and none of your favorites are available or good, as happened to me recently?? I am now on a learning expedition to find out which classic cocktails I like, so I know what to order in such situations (which admittedly don't occur often :-). I even bought a classic bartender's guide, with the history of each drink. Let the tasting begin.
it's made with whiskey (specifically rye whiskey, though i also like to use bourbon), vermouth (usually sweet, but you can use dry) and a dash of bitters. shake with ice, strain and add a cherry!

I'm also VERY fond of a nice tawny port. Or are you asking about cocktails?
