I once read about an initiatory-type spiritual tradition where one takes a vow to assume that everything is about one -- to deal with everything as if it was all about the universe speaking to one's soul, or words to that effect.

It's worth noting that this was a) done for educational purposes, b) done well along the initiatory path, after years of study and preparation, and c) referred to as "entering the Abyss".

I mean, yikes, eh?
