PARK(ing) Day, predictably, I suppose, is being an amazing series of hoops to jump through and hurdles to clear. I finally got the permits from the City of Boston for the spaces in the city, and our contact in Cambridge managed the two there, too. YAY!

The new hurdle is that the sod donation may not come through. So I'm scrambling: How do I make a parking space feel special and welcoming and vaguely parklike if I'm not lining it with sod and making it temporarily green. Ideas? I'm currently thinking about trying to use chalk or other color to create an attractive path or labyrinth or something, but I fear that simply doesn't have the same charm as good old fashioned grass.

Can you lay down some sort of artificial turf? I'm thinking of the green plastic stuff that comes in rolls, if they still make it. Still not as charming as grass, but better than chalk.

That's a thought! The huge other win of the sod was that it was going to be donated, and then I had a great place to donate it in turn at the end of the day, so it was (a) free and (b) not wasted.
