I'm not sure that judging people on poor grammar and spelling feels justified to me, per se.

Fair. I'm not expecting people to expound upon the Oxford comma, but neither do I jump for joy when college-educated folks refuse to use spell check. I guess this belongs more in the less-justified judging list.
