Happy birthday to me!

"People are so perplexing. It's like they don't know that pleasure is one of the main reasons to live." -[livejournal.com profile] contessagrrl

It's my birthday! Happy birthday to me! But wait! Before you wish me a happy birthday, you have a mission:

I need your help celebrating my birthday. I need you to go into your day with a curious mind, and the intent to do something that gives you pleasure and/or joy, something that makes you laugh, maybe something that scares you a little but makes you happier for having done it. It doesn't have to be big! It could be watching a funny video on youtube, or stopping to smell flowers while you walk around your neighborhood, or taking a bus to a part of town you've never visited. Or it can be huge! It could be telling someone you love them with no expectation of reciprocation, or jumping off the high dive for the first time, or letting yourself love yourself.

Then, once you've done that, you can come back here and wish me a happy birthday, and if you want to tell me about how you treated yourself right today, I'd love to hear that, too.

I'll do my best but meanwhile have a marvelous birthday. I will never forget the first time i saw you. Love and hugs on Rosa Day.

Happy day to you, too! You did all the heavy lifting to make it happen :D

Happy Rosa Day to you -- and thank you! :)

Today I'll be playing in the kitchen with the intent of creating havoc untold and possibly the result will be some really decent zucchini chips (recipe gleaned from Pinterest). It's my intent to discover ways to fill my salty/snacky cravings with healthy goodness. This is a way to treat myself right. And I shall dedicate the endeavor to the honor of your day.

Tonight there will be an installment of Bab5 night with local co-workers of J who have never seen it (?!). This is our way of sharing the Joy and I'll dedicate that to your day too.

Happy birthday!

ETA: I realize that you'd asked that people do their things first and then report back to you, but I suspect that the next time I'm online will be after tonight's festivities and thus it might not be your birthday anymore. So I jumped the gun a bit.

I started my celebration of your birthday with delicious morning sex with [livejournal.com profile] plumtreeblossom, so I think I’m already allowed to wish you happy birthday!

(And I think this post of yours was a fabulous idea!)

Cheers!

Happy Birthday!

I finished a small geeky project and then read the newest Oglaf comic.

I'm so glad you've spent another year with us and I look forward to another fabulous year of you reign

Happy Birthday!

Today I did my first "school supplies for donation" run, which makes me happy. I'm going to further celebrate your birthday by doing something fun I want to do, with my bit of quiet time, rather than doing something dull that I feel should be done.

I had a conversation of 100 minutes with a fresh new squee. It felt like a championship game of hopscotch, or a butterfly bush being attended by a dozen dizzy drunken bumblebees.

Happy birthday!

Thank you for this! I reached out to someone this morning, then I got on the T. First time for the silver line (aka a bus) & Flour & SoWa. I found a hat shop in one of the buildings next to SoWa where everything looks fabulous on me. Now I just need a sugar daddy or hat fetishist in my life :)
Hope your birthday and coming year are as awesome as my day has been.

Happy birthday! I've had a day of gastronomic delights. :D

Fed N yogurt with jam. (He ended up getting hold of the little bowl with the yogurt in it. Whee!) Had smoked salmon for breakfast. Bought umeboshi vinegar—OMG thank you, I've found my platonic ideal of vinegar! Made sauerkraut, though not with the vinegar this time, because I didn't think to open and taste it until afterwards. But it's both green and purple cabbage, and is gorrrrgeous.

Also, I bought delicious cheese and tiny French lentils and beautiful dried adzuki beans, among other things.

Oh, P.S.: the sauerkraut? It has juniper berries in it.

After months of doing without, I had a massage today. I need to not do without thusly.

I took a break from housework and puttering to watch Women's Beach volleyball on the Olympics... just cuz I could.

Have a VERY Happy Birthday!
Once more around the sun!

I celebrated the day at a delightful herbal gathering, made complete by adopting some absinthe wormwood for cordial-making.

May your birthday season abound in juicy experiences!

So far I have:

• Had a difficult conversation with my daughter. It's great to be a cool, fun parent--which I get to be a lot of the time--but when I manage a tough moment with reasonable grace, that's a whole different level.

• Attended a church service led by the Prayer Shawl Ministry--folk within our church who knit shawls to give to people who need a tangible reminder of the warmth and comfort of our community through difficult times. It was joyful and thought-provoking and affirming and challenging.

• Taken part in the reading of a very interesting script and conversation about it with three fabulous women, reading roles that are not ones I would ever expect to play on stage.

• Attended a surprise party for a friend turning forty, which was filled with old friends and their many children, in a splendid celebration of a life lived in thriving community.

So it's a varied day of pleasures and challenges and I'm happy to make it a tribute to your own myriad splendours.

Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday!

I decided to kick back, get high & order delivery food for dinner and read a fluffy book. The book is an autobiography by Miss J/J Alexander from America's Next Top Model.

The book was really great. Frothy with a delightfully real & solid core. Miss J is over 50 and has spent a good chunk of his life living in NYC including being a fabulous gender bending gay club kid in the 1970s/1980s. He got into Studio 54 etc. etc.

Then I asked my room mate to take down the trash purely because I didn't want to. I find it scary to ask someone to do things for no reason than because I want to, especially practical things.

I took some crazy cat lady pictures of Madame because, well. That's how I like to do it.

Happy, happy birthday! I hope you've had a fabulous day!!!

I hopped on the back of my girlfriend's bike for the first time since she dropped it (with me on the back), then sold it and bought a new one (so I have been nervous to ride again with her both because of the accident, and because the new one less familiar to her so seems even less safe). The good news is the ride went well...

I hope your birthday was fantabulastic!

It was a hard day due to pain and immobility, but I managed to enjoy it anyway.

I agreed to meet a new-to-the-area colleague at Starbucks even though I wasn't sure I could make it down the stairs this morning, but I did, and drove there and back. Before and after that meeting, I watched a rewarding Webinar by one of my favorite genealogy bloggers.

In the evening I got taken out for a very nice dinner, returned home, and then massaged to take out some of the kinks the crutches produced.

I hope your birthday was terrific!

[identity profile] arachne8x.livejournal.com 2012-07-30 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
The nice thing I did for myself was taking it easy yesterday morning. I took a sorely needed nap and watched tv, which was excellent because my brain really wanted me to try to go out and do some photography to catch some shots on a reshoot. After thinking about it though, I realized how much my body and mind would benefit from the rest, and they did :) So giving myself the morning off from overachieving is what I did.

I hope you got a lot of joy in your day.

I didn't even realize there was an assignment to celebrate your birthday, but I did it anyway! My sweetie and I took a long bike ride to an outdoor pool, swam in said pool, baked in the sun (we both got a little burned :-/), and biked a little bit more. Then had a delicious fruit smoothie (banana, mango, fresh pineapple juice and lime juice) before taking the water taxi back across the water and then bus home. We were POOPED, in the best possible way.

So, hooray for your birthday!

I had the world's best rainy-day-trapped-in-the-woods-with-four-kids EVER. Like, it was actually a magnificent day. Then in the afternoon when they finally started to get a bit wound up, I scooped up three of them and took them for an awesomely productive hardware store trip. It was at this point that one of them suggested that we go through the car wash, which turned into an EPIC hour-plus cleaning jag where these girls ran around like little electrons throwing out trash and getting change and vacuuming rugs and wiping surfaces and sorting pens until the inside of the car SPARKLED and then we went through the car wash and got the full treatment (with wax) and sang "Firework" at the top of our lungs. And brought home ice cream.

I walked to church. It was a beautiful morning. On the way, at the bus stop just in front of the church, I found a penny. I picked it up and looked up into the face of a worried man of many years who seemed a bit frail and who was waiting with a sad look on his face. He had watched me as I reached over for it.

I handed him the penny and said "sharing the luck."

He smiled a sweet, honest and pleased smile.

Later in the day, I found a second penny in the road and had the pleasure of handing it to my best friend with the same words. She smiled a pleased smile as well.

And I was the one fortunate to be part of the world's random adventures into smiling. Not really a gift I gave myself, but certainly one I am celebrating.

Belated happy birthday, I can only hope you are continuing to celebrate it today as well. :)
