Happy birthday to me!
"People are so perplexing. It's like they don't know that pleasure is one of the main reasons to live." -

It's my birthday! Happy birthday to me! But wait! Before you wish me a happy birthday, you have a mission:
I need your help celebrating my birthday. I need you to go into your day with a curious mind, and the intent to do something that gives you pleasure and/or joy, something that makes you laugh, maybe something that scares you a little but makes you happier for having done it. It doesn't have to be big! It could be watching a funny video on youtube, or stopping to smell flowers while you walk around your neighborhood, or taking a bus to a part of town you've never visited. Or it can be huge! It could be telling someone you love them with no expectation of reciprocation, or jumping off the high dive for the first time, or letting yourself love yourself.
Then, once you've done that, you can come back here and wish me a happy birthday, and if you want to tell me about how you treated yourself right today, I'd love to hear that, too.

Tonight there will be an installment of Bab5 night with local co-workers of J who have never seen it (?!). This is our way of sharing the Joy and I'll dedicate that to your day too.
Happy birthday!
ETA: I realize that you'd asked that people do their things first and then report back to you, but I suspect that the next time I'm online will be after tonight's festivities and thus it might not be your birthday anymore. So I jumped the gun a bit.

Happy Birthday!
I finished a small geeky project and then read the newest Oglaf comic.
I'm so glad you've spent another year with us and I look forward to another fabulous year of you reign

Today I did my first "school supplies for donation" run, which makes me happy. I'm going to further celebrate your birthday by doing something fun I want to do, with my bit of quiet time, rather than doing something dull that I feel should be done.

Fed N yogurt with jam. (He ended up getting hold of the little bowl with the yogurt in it. Whee!) Had smoked salmon for breakfast. Bought umeboshi vinegar—OMG thank you, I've found my platonic ideal of vinegar! Made sauerkraut, though not with the vinegar this time, because I didn't think to open and taste it until afterwards. But it's both green and purple cabbage, and is gorrrrgeous.
Also, I bought delicious cheese and tiny French lentils and beautiful dried adzuki beans, among other things.

May your birthday season abound in juicy experiences!

• Had a difficult conversation with my daughter. It's great to be a cool, fun parent--which I get to be a lot of the time--but when I manage a tough moment with reasonable grace, that's a whole different level.
• Attended a church service led by the Prayer Shawl Ministry--folk within our church who knit shawls to give to people who need a tangible reminder of the warmth and comfort of our community through difficult times. It was joyful and thought-provoking and affirming and challenging.
• Taken part in the reading of a very interesting script and conversation about it with three fabulous women, reading roles that are not ones I would ever expect to play on stage.
• Attended a surprise party for a friend turning forty, which was filled with old friends and their many children, in a splendid celebration of a life lived in thriving community.
So it's a varied day of pleasures and challenges and I'm happy to make it a tribute to your own myriad splendours.
Happy Birthday!

I decided to kick back, get high & order delivery food for dinner and read a fluffy book. The book is an autobiography by Miss J/J Alexander from America's Next Top Model.
The book was really great. Frothy with a delightfully real & solid core. Miss J is over 50 and has spent a good chunk of his life living in NYC including being a fabulous gender bending gay club kid in the 1970s/1980s. He got into Studio 54 etc. etc.
Then I asked my room mate to take down the trash purely because I didn't want to. I find it scary to ask someone to do things for no reason than because I want to, especially practical things.
I took some crazy cat lady pictures of Madame because, well. That's how I like to do it.

I agreed to meet a new-to-the-area colleague at Starbucks even though I wasn't sure I could make it down the stairs this morning, but I did, and drove there and back. Before and after that meeting, I watched a rewarding Webinar by one of my favorite genealogy bloggers.
In the evening I got taken out for a very nice dinner, returned home, and then massaged to take out some of the kinks the crutches produced.
I hope your birthday was terrific!

I handed him the penny and said "sharing the luck."
He smiled a sweet, honest and pleased smile.
Later in the day, I found a second penny in the road and had the pleasure of handing it to my best friend with the same words. She smiled a pleased smile as well.
And I was the one fortunate to be part of the world's random adventures into smiling. Not really a gift I gave myself, but certainly one I am celebrating.
Belated happy birthday, I can only hope you are continuing to celebrate it today as well. :)
