Pumpkin is disgusting, I know, I'd throw it up too...

Huh, weird. Now, grilled cheese and *mustard*, on the other hand.

Sorry, there's no radio button for "Yes, but only if a slice of tomato isn't available to go inside the sandwich". Because both on the same sandwich would just be...wrong somehow.

To which I half expect a poll that goes "Grilled cheese sandwich with sliced tomato?" :)

Huh. Maybe it was seeing people eat tomato with grilled cheese that made me think the ketchup thing was normal.

But ketchup and tomato are so far from being similar things that it's, it's like, like a grilled cheese sandwich with sweet relish or something.

Which, actually. Hmm.

[identity profile] concrete.livejournal.com 2011-02-09 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Could be a european thing - we even put ketchup on pizza.

[identity profile] moominmolly.livejournal.com 2011-02-09 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Right. Tomato yes, ketchup no. Sweet relish, though.... I'd try that. Maybe especially with sharp cheddar.

[identity profile] mzrowan.livejournal.com 2011-02-09 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Also a Canadian thing? It's standard up there, along with ketchup on mac & cheese.

marmalade and sharp cheddar. or chutney.

[identity profile] amber-phoenix.livejournal.com 2011-02-09 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
grilled swiss on rye with good mustard. totally.

[identity profile] hammercock.livejournal.com 2011-02-09 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure what sounds worse, that or the peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwiches one of my grandmothers used to make.

[identity profile] hammercock.livejournal.com 2011-02-09 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Ketchup turns food into not-food. However, grilled cheese with a good tomato soup? Nom.

LASAGNA. Even on LASAGNA. Philistine.

Wow, I'm really surprised by the number of "No, what? WTF?" responses.

I like ketchup on my grilled cheese, except probably not on a fancy sandwich. I bet I wouldn't use it as a condiment at American Grilled Cheese Kitchen, for example.

This

[identity profile] whynotkay.livejournal.com 2011-02-10 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Grilled cheese with tomato soup on the side... But not ketchup. Never ketchup.

[identity profile] 42itous.livejournal.com 2011-02-10 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Hungry now.

[identity profile] nminusone.livejournal.com 2011-02-10 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Throw some pastrami on there and you got yourself one fine sandwich.

[identity profile] nminusone.livejournal.com 2011-02-10 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm afraid the poll has no option that expresses just how gross that sounds - and this is coming from someone who kinda liked grilled cheese and jelly sandwiches.

[identity profile] pir.livejournal.com 2011-02-10 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
Mayonnaise doesn't go with peanut butter, ketchup brings out the salty savoury taste in it though.

[identity profile] pierceheart.livejournal.com 2011-02-10 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm even more of an outlier - I make my grilled cheese sandwiches using either mayo or miracle whip, instead of butter.

[identity profile] keyne.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I less-than-3 you!

[identity profile] keyne.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
I may be an outlier because I eat neither bread nor ketchup.

Now grilled firm cheese with hot sauce: that, I'd eat.
