Do you use a mac and sometimes record yourself for a podcast, transcription, or other purposes? If so, what program and/or mic do you find works best?

Not a Mac, but... a number of my cohorts doing videos for the Fool have found that a recent iPhone, mounted in a stable stand, can generate quite good-quality video if the lighting is good -- and the iOS video editing software apparently works just fine. For a mic, the Shure SM93 lavalier mic seems to be the standard, but you'll need an adaptor to plug it into an iPhone.

I record my gaming sessions weekly on my MacBook Pro and use Audacity as my software and the Samson Go Mic USB microphone. It gets everyone in a medium sized living room really clearly.

I use Audacity as my software ($0), and the Blue Snowball USB microphone (~$60).
I've used it for corporate trainings and podcasts, and it has worked just fine.

I use Garageband. It came with my Mac ($15 if you don't have it), has really convenient editing controls, easy multi-track handling, even automatic ducking (not that I've used it). It's clearly intended for more, but it works really well for me.

I generally record my lines for shows. I use GarageBand because it's there.
