aroraborealis: (tequila!)

One of the elements of my Thanksgiving celebration yesterday was a series of surprise power outages, which led to an extra-fancy feeling dinner over candlelight (and the fun of carving the turkey by headlamp!)

This was fun for us, but it made me think how grateful I am that it's a festive rarity to go without power, that I very rarely go without water service, that I have a safe and solid home that's warm in winter and cool in summer. Many people in the world don't have these things at all, much less if they have those services, also having the sense of security and confidence that they will have it tomorrow. It's an amazing blessing to have water and power on demand, and I am grateful for it.

Me, too. Those who have never lived without it all can take it for granted all too easily. I'm thankful for the time I have spent living out of my backpack and out of our car, with babies you and Dan at the beach all winter.

I think about this one frequently. Most often when taking a very-needed hot shower or observing the intricate Dance of Airport Logistics.
