There was a non-stinging type when I was a kid that used to frequent the Martha's Vineyard area. I wish I could claim that in my child-like peace and innocence the facts that they had no natural defenses what so ever, and that they were funny looking, did not add up to a severe detriment to the the health and well being or their entire population.
ow ow ow! my only encounter with jellyfish were along the jersey shore where they were almost a voting block. They were serious beasties that we were told to keep away from with the direst of warnings (spontaneous amputation, etc etc).
I don't think they were that bad, but they were large and nasty.
