When someone who should know better says, "X is so much cooler than you."

Well, I have to admit that that's true.

Is that used as a figure of speech ("X is so hot"), or a statement about your relative coolness levels? Either way, yeah.

As a statement of relative coolness levels. It wasn't phrased quite so straight up, but that was definitely the message.

Ahh. Then: "X is so much cooler than me", yeah. "...than you", no.

nonsense

Is that "you" in the generic or to some unnamed person, or is that "you" Rosa in specific? If the latter, then the statement is near unparsable nonsense, since clearly no one is cooler than you.

Actually, I think you're being generous -- except for little kids, I pretty much think *everyone* should know better.

Plus there's the fact that X was pretty cool in the 80s when it pretty much originated the concept of network based graphical interfaces. I, for one, am still an ardent fan of the concept, but it is mundane enough that it hardly qualifies as "cool". Even Swing is starting to move from "cool" to "whatever". I'm so out of touch with things that I don't even know what is currently cooler than X. Maybe .NET.

Swing moved from "cool" to "whatever" in 1945 or so with the advent of bebop.

Well, there is the fact that I have a T-shirt with the NMR of X, and I don't have any spectra of you on t-shirts or otherwise. Clearly we need to fix this.

How would one go about getting a spectra of a person, anyway?

Someone tasteless enough to say something like that can scarcely be considered a reliable arbiter of cool.
