Not that I care to be one to slow down an impulse purchase, but you really really really want to know better what you want before you invest in a spinning wheel, and that means using sevral first. Not just at the store, but really use some. Borrow mine (whenever you want to come get it) go to some spinners meetings and spin on some different ones. You'll have your wheel for life (if you choose and invest well), they are all so different, it height, weight, feel, etc, it's *really* good to get exactly what you want, and that takes time and patience.

You're right! Yes, that's why I don't need to buy a spinning wheel right now! So I should just stop looking for bargain wheels being sold by bored housewives who never got the hang of spinning, right? Right! I'm glad that's settled.

Happy I could help! There will still be bored housewives when you get back and resettled... And Hawkegirl has a good point about trying out different wheels... my friend C. has one with two foot pedals that she likes much more than the one pedal models... and she'd never have known that if she hadn't tried them out.

I know a woman who spins and has several wheels. She may be willing to lend you one, and I'm sure she'd be willing to let you come over and try them out. She lives in Medford. Please let me know if I should contact her.

Well I am a woman with many spinning wheels, and it is a life investment. You will ( hopefully) have it to use forever.
But you do want to get one that will suit you, the type of spinning you plan to do and one that just pleases you. There is alot of impractical aesthetics in spinning and weacing equipment, so you should take your time. Regret is bad.
If you know someone you can borrow from, that will take the edge off your desire, and get you to spinning!

But you do want to get one that will suit you, the type of spinning you plan to do and one that just pleases you. There is alot of impractical aesthetics in spinning and weaving equipment as well as the functional aspects, so you should take your time. Regret is bad.
I use different wheels for different fibers, types of yarn, etc.

If you know someone you can borrow from, that will take the edge off your desire, and get you to spinning!
