I finished my scarf a week or so ago, and I've been wearing it around, and it's fabulous! I'm glad I finished it in time for the cold spring weather! I have to admit that mom was right; the alpaca is a little itchy on my neck, but it's fine as long as I don't get overheated.

In other knitting news, I started a hat! And, since I took a sick day to nip my cold in the bud, I FINISHED the hat! It looks great, it feels great, and I have enough yarn to make another! It's so exciting!

Now, to bed.

Woohoo! Congratulations!!! :o)

I just finished my second scarf myself... I hated knitting with the yarn (it's the lionbrand "homespun"... nasty bumpy stuff, but it was cheap and available when I had the impulse, and a preeeeety varigated blue), but I LOVE the non-traditional shape of the scarf.

Have you checked out Sally Melville's 'Knitting Experience' book? It's a really nifty resource.

Now I'm trying... SOCKS!!! Double-pointed needles are hellish to start off with, but once you "get it", they're easy, and I feel so accomplished with all those needles going on! *grin*

I haven't knitted with bumpy stuff, yet, but it looks challenging. I've seen some really nice work come out of that kind of yarn, though, so I'm sure I'll try it eventually :)

I haven't seen Melville's book. In fact, the only knitting book I have right now is my mom's knitting bible. I'm sure I'll get some more eventually, but for now, I'm kinda winging it :)

Socks! That's exciting! I've been nervous about trying socks in large part because of the double pointed needle issue, but I actually ended up using double points for the last few rows of the hat, and they weren't bad! If I were gonna travel with them, I think I'd want to get the little stoppers to put on the ends so nothing slides off, but for just knitting around the house, I think the concept is feeling manageable. Did I see you post that you're doing toe-up socks? That looks a lot more appealing to me, somehow. I think when I get to trying socks, i'll get the Twisted Sisters sock book -- everyone's been raving about it.

Yeah, the toe-up sock is murder to get started, but it seems easier to me overall... none of that weird toe-grafting.

The challenging thing about the homespun is that you can't see the stitches well enough. I was fine doing knit stitch, but heaven help me if I dropped a stitch. I'm sure it's riddled with holes. The good thing is that you can't see the stitches well enough. *grin* Which means you can't see the mistakes.
