I seem to have developed some allergies to something that's out and about the past couple of days. I have that "a cold is coming on" feeling, but I've had it for a couple of days, with no real shift, and I can only imagine that it's allergies. I also have a headache. This is stinky. What does one do for allergies, anyway?

I've been kinda bummed the past week or so, as Melissa's been prepping to move out. Sunday was her last night, and now I'm housesitting, which is kinda nice, actually, to be out of the apartment whilst things are in flux. With "home" being so much in the air for me in advance of my trip, I'm a little cranky about having things stirred up in the apartment, but it's only 3 months, so I'm sure I'll live.

I've also decided that I need to find a group of friends who are less kid oriented. It's weird to feel like I'm actively looking for a "type" of person, rather than just getting to know the people who come into my life more organically, but I think it's unhealthy for me not to be supporting that side of myself.

Mmm. Transition.

There are a number of antihistamines available these days that are non-sedating and really have no side effects. You might have to try more than one, though, before you find something that works. I suggest starting with Claritin since it's now over-the-counter. It didn't do much for me by I know people who swear by the stuff. If that doesn't work, you could get a prescription for one of the others. I hope you feel better soon!

For serious allergy attacks I usually take Benadryl. It puts an end to the allergies but leaves me completely unable to do or think anything coherent for the next 12 hours or so. On the other hand, when the allergy gets that bad, I'm out of action in any meaningful sense anyway, so I might as well not feel miserable in the meantime. :-)

I've found Claritin to work reasonably well but it only lasts a couple of hours and warns you in ominous terms not to take more than 1 a day! Now that there's a 12-hour variety I'll probably try that too.

Good luck. Allergies are the pits.
