On my way back from lunch with the ever awesome [livejournal.com profile] rule30, I was nearly run down in a crosswalk by a car sporting the bumper sticker "I SUPPORT WATERBOARDING".

Later, I passed an elderly couple just as the man said to the woman, "Honey, I need to take a piddle break."

The world is endlessly entertaining!

I'll qualify the answer by "Rosa nearly getting run over" is merely an example of the capriciousness of the universe, but "I support waterboarding" is demonstration of true evil.

...the fact that the waterboarding sticker didn't end with the words "Dick Cheney"?

Maybe we should make "...Dick Cheney!" stickers with which to amend nutwing bumper stickers we see on other cars.

"I SUPPORT WATERBOARDING ... Dick Cheney!"
"NO MORE ... Dick Cheney!"
"JUST SAY NO ... Dick Cheney!"
"MY OTHER CAR IS A ... Dick Cheney!"

etc.

I was telling [livejournal.com profile] knot_frayed about this thread when I got home from work.
He suggested I print up a bunch of "Dick Cheney!" stickers and encourage people to slap them on STOP signs as well as "nutwing" bumpers.

I was really stuck for a few minutes on "but I can't decide between 1 and 2!" and "the combination of 1 and 2 is most upsetting!"

But since you like torturing us with radio buttons (*grin*), I forced myself to think a little more rationally about it. And rationally, while it's upsetting that you were almost run over, you weren't run over, and the bumper sticker still exists.

I'm glad you weren't run over, and that you're amused. :)

I was similarly stuck until I realized that what was really disturbing was that someone who had the bumper sticker was the one who almost squashed Rosa. I'd never put it on my car, but I have a skewed enough sense of humor that I sorta like that it exists.

Oops, I clicked "piddle break" because I wasn't paying attention and thought you were asking "more entertaining." For upsetting, I vote for you nearly getting run over.

You can change your answers to a poll by clicking the poll title (Poll #1449851) and then clicking "Fill Out Poll" at the top.

I have to agree with the chain of people above. After all, you *weren't* run over, and the thought of you getting almost run over does not make me want to cry quite as much as the thought of that bumper sticker.

I was hoping that I would stop talking to my husband about bathroom functions using the same language I use to my kids when my kids stop hanging around my house needing help with bathroom functions. So, apparently I won't, eh? That is disturbing. Still I vote for #1.

i'll note that you were "amused" -- if you'd been "scared" or whatever by the time you wrote this, i'd likely have answered quite differently.

...but only because I'm selfish. People who support waterboarding are definitely worse for the world, I'm afraid.

I changed my answer, for the reason cited above.

To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, whenever I hear anyone arguing for waterboarding I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on them personally.
