You're right; I should have just said "oral cold sores", which is what I actually meant, and I should have clarified that I meant not during an outbreak.
That's what I gathered and my answers reflected that if by "not during an outbreak" you also include the prodromal phase or anything I might interpret as indicative of being contagious.
