Blind dancing: Sunday, February 11
Jan. 7th, 2007 08:19 pmAs you all may recall, one of the events I wanted to organize after Twilight Covening was a blindfolded dance. Well, my crazy busy fall is past and I'm now into crazy busy winter, but I have selected a tentative date. I will be taking some of my copious free time this week to figure out the location, but for now, the date I'm looking at is Sunday, February 11.
I am fantasizing that this will be a big hit and I can put it on every couple of months, but for now, I'm starting with the one. This will be open to friends and friends of friends and maybe even friends of friends of friends, which should pretty much cover the entire Boston area.
I'll be looking for spotters (and
dancingwolfgrrl and I will do a small introduction to spotting before the main event begins) as well as welcoming dancers. Stay tuned for more details!
[EDIT: date changed from 2/18 to 2/11.]

Thanks to
cinnalynn's inspiring presence, I finally hit the Thursday night contra at its new location at Springstep in Medford Square. It was great to get out and dance, and I enjoyed it loads, even though the caller didn't blow me away.
I like the new space, but it's very different, and if I think of it as the same dance as the VFW, I think I wouldn't like it as much. As its own new thing, though, I like it.
The dances we danced tonight ranged from super fun and somewhat unusual to extraordinarily boring. There was one that basically consisted of balancing a ring three times, swinging your partner, balancing the ring again and then moving on. *yawn*
The last dance was my favorite though, even though I don't think my partner and I got it right once! It involved contra corners, which always give me fits, and I can only do them right if there are enough people in the line who know what they're doing so they can grab me and shove me in the right direction. In our line, that wasn't so much happening, but we had a blast, anyway. My partner (Kit? I'm pretty sure that's his name) didn't take it too seriously, and we spent a lot of time running around trying to be in the right place for the parts of the dance that we could do, which involved lots of spinning and twirling, so it was a total blast.
It reminded me, too, just how much a great dance (even if imperfectly executed) leaves me with a massive crush on my partner by the end of it. Foolishly, I didn't get his number.

Yesterday was one of those good days. I went to work late, which makes traffic much more manageable (not that it's usually bad, and typically only from my house to Route 2). At work, we were productive and snarky: my favorite!
At the end of the day, I informed my boss that her offered bribe (plus bimonthly spa days) would be acceptable to get me to stay for an extra year beyond what I had originally planned. This seemed to please her, and I know I'm happy with the outcome. Now I can say that one of the perks of my job is spa days: how cool is that!
This means that I'll be changing my availability date for the Peace Corps. I was assured that this won't impact my eligibility at all, so it works out well all the way around. I'll continue on with the medical clearance forms and generally finishing up all the paperwork and such, and we'll go from there.
wolfkitn called me in the morning to complain about some unfortunate news she'd just heard, and while we were talking, she mentioned she was thinking of going to the Greenfield dance. Well! I didn't have any evening plans, so, voila! So we went to Greenfield after work, and the dance was awesome -- it was just the right amount of energetic, great dancing, and nice people. The only bad thing was that early in the evening, it wasn't quite the right amount of cool and dry. But once I'm dancing, I don't mind so much; it's just when we stop :)
We got home around 2 in the morning, I showered and fell into bed, and now, I think I'm awake earlier than I ought to be. Darned internal alarm clock!
