Lots of nursing moms pump and freeze breast milk for their babies to drink when mom's not around. But sometimes you don't get to the pumped milk before it expires! What to do?

If you have leftover or expired breast milk, [livejournal.com profile] razil and I would like to use it to make soap, and we'll split the resulting batch with you! Or you can get an assortment of our various soaps, or...?

It's better than just tossing it, right? :)

Behind the cut: boring soap notes )

[livejournal.com profile] razil and I made the most luscious lip balm today! I'm wearing it right now and my lips are happy. Mmm. I'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with the steamers I just ate, or the lobster I'm anticipating. Nope. (Why don't I live in Maine?)

We (or, rather, she, since I have several conflicting plans) will be selling our soaps and lip balms at an arts & crafts fair here in Portland next weekend. For any Bostonians who want a bar of soap ($4/bar or 3 for $10 for plain ones, $5/bar for nice molds) or a tube of lip balm ($3 each or 2 for $5), I can bring some back with me and find a way to get them to you, but you should tell me by noon Sunday, or you'll have to wait 'til after the next time I come up here. In theory, we could ship things, but, hey, I know us, and don't count on it.

I pick the best days to drive up to Maine! Last time, I got stuck in big traffic on 128. Friday night, it was as rainy as any weather I've driven in. I made it safely, though, and we had a delicious dinner at an open-kitchen pizza place in Portland. Came back to Liz's and Scott's house for gossip and drinks.

Yesterday, we had bacon and eggs for breakfast, then Liz and I went to the grocery store for supplies, while Scott went to the PO to get rid of some of those pesky xmas packages. Success at the grocery store preceded two really fabulous batches of soap.

I'm gonna have to stop making soap or get on the horn about selling it, or giving it away soon, because we have a whole lot of soap left from the day we did two sesame honey soaps, and I really don't use a lot of soap myself. That said, we have a ton of leftovers here, so we're gonna make and Everything but the Kitchen Sink soap with what we have, and we also have ingredients coming from brambleberry that didn't arrive in time for this weekend, so we'll have to make a plan to use those, too. Maybe in January.

I think I should start working on lotions. My skin is feeling pretty dry, and more soap won't help that all that much :) And maybe lip balms.

Next week, though, it's candles. I need 60 hand-dipped tapers for kristin's and josh's wedding on the 3rd of January, so I'd better get to it. Also, I have some holiday gifts still to make. Good this I have the week off starting tuesday! Woohoo!

Well, my motivation to get anything done at work this week is totally and completely lacking. Not surprising, since what I really want to be doing is moving boxes into the new place! We're confirmed for move-in tomorrow, so at least that's settled!

I spent all day yesterday figuring out a recipe for the next batch of soap I want to make, so, now, of course, I want to do it! I did order all the ingredients and have them sent to hawkegirl's house, so that's something. And she, Liz and I have a date for October 19 to do that batch, and maybe another. Hawkegirl was talking about making a bug repellant soap for her new horse.

My plan is for a batch of honey sesame soap: 5% each beeswax and avocado oil, 10% each of macadamia and castor oils, 20% cocoa butter, and 25% each palm and sesame oils. Plus a bit of evening primrose oil and honey at trace. I'm a little concerned that using so much castor oil will cause the batch to be really soft, but the beeswax and cocoa butter should help with that. Hawkegirl said that beeswax can make the soap feel a little filmy, and I'm hoping that won't be a problem, since it's a pretty small amount. I might take it out and use some salt instead, which she says will help make it hard, but I like the idea of beeswax in my honey soap :)

Anyway, now I want to be soaping while someone else moves all my stuff. I certainly don't want to be at work. *sigh*
